Client Requirement
Highlight and report under-utilised trips and strategic planned stops with no order activity.
Vehicle to vehicle transhipments
Solution
Highlight & Report Under-utilised Trips
The solution is designed to automatically route cages and other delivery units by reference to a template driven strategic plan set into the systems master data. Planning is therefore largely automatic however, some manual planning using existing C-TMS functionality will be required to handle ad-hoc collection and delivery orders, dealership returns and any exceptions arising due to over utilisation or breakdown of vehicles.
The system will provide through real time enquiry and reports, a status of trip utilisation. Any underutilised trips or unused trip stops and any over-allocated burst trips will be highlighted for manual intervention.
C-TMS provides a suite of screens to allow trips to be manually manipulated. This will cover manual addition of unallocated orders to existing trips either to consolidate or create new delivery stops within the trip schedule, creation of new trips, deletion of under-utilised trips or deletion of unused stops. These functions are generally controlled through right click menu functions from the planning screens.
C-TMS currently supports planning trips that represent a driver’s shift, for example two radial delivery rounds in one trip where the driver returns the depot or out base to reload. Trips can be generated covering this type of scenario from fixed schedules in C-TMS, or planned trips can be merged manually (trip stringing) within C-TMS as either a planning or transport function.
Every trip will be allocated to an owning depot location and a carrier assigned whether own fleet or a third party sub-contract haulier. Parameters can be set against the carrier fleet profile to govern shift times, drive times and breaks times and any deviation in plan exceeding these rules are highlighted with the trip schedule.
Vehicle to Vehicle Transhipments
C-TMS currently supports x-dock planning and trailer swapping. There is a requirement to support vehicle transhipments where cages are passed over from one vehicle to another. Some development amendments will be necessary to cater for vehicle to vehicle transhipments, particularly to maintain all the order and asset tracking requirements of the business. This function needs further definition and ideally should be controlled by the driver using a function on the Microlise HHT.
Scope
This change will be applied to system version 10.6.0 on SARTST and once approved SARPRD.

DP_CSV Package Changes
A new ‘comma separated value’ (CSV) extract procedure will be added to the existing package DP_CSV, this package handles the generation of extracts which can be read by MS Excel and other spreadsheet applications.
The extract will be in two formats a summary and a detail level extract will be available as selection criteria when the user initiates the extract.
In addition to the format the user will be prompted to enter the following criteria to reduce the number of records reported:
- Date From
- Date To
- Origin Depot (option to select ALL will be available)
- Utilisation Filter with two options:
- ‘Less Than/Equal to’ or ‘Greater Than/Equal to’
- Number between 0 and 999 (percentage)
Summary Report Format
NB the actual file will contain header information regarding selection criteria, run date and user information. All data columns will be separated by ‘,’ (commas). The data will be summarised and reported at a trip header level.
