Client Request
A process to make the driver scan a store barcode when at store is required by LFL. This scan should be before they deliver the containers.

Aptean Solution
Warning Warning: Wasn't this about night deliveries? What's the actual requirements rather than a description of the change we think we need...

The system will have a new flag added to the Job Group to identify whether this is process is in force. All jobs assigned to this job group will assume this configuration.

A new field will be added to the Job Import, to allow the users to specify a scannable item against the job. Warning Warning: Is this required? Or are they just scanning the Customer Code in a barcode?

The PDA application will be modified so that it recognises this new flag and stores the new Location Scan field against the job.

If this is the case, When a job is arrived at, the PDA will popup a screen requesting the user to scan a barcode. Warning Warning: or key in the location (the customer code)?

If the barcode matches the Location Scan field, the user will be allowed to continue.

If not, an error will be displayed in a pop-up, showing that they have scanned the data incorrectly.

Warning Warning: The user will not be allowed to continue until they have entered the item correctly?

Note Note: It depends on the device itself whether the device can recognise whether the input came from the scanner or the keyboard. If this is possible:

  • If the users enters the item through the keyboard rather than the scanner, the unit should warn the user that this will be logged.
  • A new update field should be added to the message being sent back to the server, logging the fact that the item was not scanned but keyed.
  • Warning Warning: Because this scanner setup is global, this will probably affect the scanning in other sections of the application. If so, the processing of the entry in these fields will need to be modified across the board to recognise if this was a scan and remove any characters identifying this. This will require a generic module to be written, plus several device-specific configuration fields to be added.
